Mrs. Betsy de Vega
Mrs. Betsy de Vega is the administrator / owner of Kn.I.L.E. Prep Academy. Betsy de Vega has a background in Psychology and Education. She has served as the administrator of a school for over 15 years, and most recently owned and operated a cognitive skills, brain training center, in Sugar Land, Texas. Over the past several years she has worked with children with special needs and has also done freelance writing for a local magazine. Being a mother of two, Ms. DeVega is very aware of the struggles that children, and parents, go through and how unique people’s learning styles can be. She is also very involved in the Sugar Land community and her church. Ms. DeVega describes her passion and lifelong dream as a deep desire to touch students’ lives by impacting their futures and helping them unlock their full potential. Kn.I.L.E. Prep Academy is located in the Greatwood subdivision of Sugar Land, TX. Kn.I.L.E. Prep Academy is a satellite school of New College Prep. The acronym “Kn.I.L.E.” Prep Academy derives its essence from where Knowledge + Intelligence = Learning Excellence. Kn.I.L.E. Prep Academy is a subsidiary of Kn.I.L.E. Center, LLC. Marty and Carol Appelbaum
The Turning Point Academy (TPA) is customized for students in grades 5-12. Students come to our school for many reasons. Some are high achievers who felt traditional schools were not meeting their needs. Some want a more flexible schedule for nonschool activities. Others were tired of dealing with the unnecessary drama of school cliques.
TPA is located in our founder’s luxurious home in Sugar Land. We provide a prestigious environment for teaching teens to be goal oriented and to take control of their learning. Our goal is to turn today’s teens into tomorrow’s leaders. We are the high standard option versus conventional schooling and “mandated timeline” teaching. Our students receive step-by-step academic assistance. Our students are taught how to take control of their learning and how to earn A’s. We have a zero tolerance for negative behavior…No bullying or unacceptable behavior!
Marty and Carol Appelbaum are the founders of The Turning Point Academy; they have spent a lifetime dedicated to their goal of creating a profound and positive difference in children’s lives. As co-founders of the Appelbaum Training Institute, they are known throughout the United States for their powerful learning strategies geared to students. Over 50,000 educators attended their professional development seminars and conferences in 2009. The Appelbaums have appeared on television across the nation for their “Hallway Hero” Anti-Bullying Campaign. They have been interviewed on radio, and have been quoted in newspapers. In addition to his Degree in Business Management and teaching certificate, Marty has been a teacher, an administrator and a principal of schools. He authored two Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses used by college undergraduate students and “How to Teach Children to Follow Rules”, “Keys to Success” and is featured in “Chicken Soup for the Teacher’s Soul.” He has taught in inclusion classrooms with diverse groups of students. His teaching style enhances cooperation and positive attitudes in the lives of all of his students.
Mrs. Carol Appelbaum is a driving force behind the Turning Point Academy. She is committed to changing the way education has been done in our country. Carol emphatically agrees with Mortimer Adler who states “Education should be individualized not standardized!” Her goal is for The Turning Point Academy to be a model for how all children are educated in the 21st century. Carol is constantly boosting her students’ confidence and encouraging each one to reach his or her highest potential at everything they do. It is more conducive to success. “Success breeds success”, is her mantra. She wouldn’t have her daughter in any other school environment and believes others should have the same.
As founders of Appelbaum Training Institute, ATiseminars.org, (the largest teacher training organization in the U.S., with a presence in Canada, South America and Asia) The Appelbaums are qualified to provide students with a solid foundation. TPA understands academics and the need for new teaching methods. TPA has implemented NEW College Preparatory Academy’s (NCPA) superior, easy to learn, technology enhanced curriculum, which has a long history of accomplishments.
